I teach special needs preschoolers with varying disabilities in an area that is socio-economically disadvantaged. Most live in small apartments with their extended families. Neither the school district nor the parents have money to contribute to my program which requires a lot of consumables, manipulatives, and hands on activities through which the children learn. Their disabilities include speech and language impairments, autism, mental retardation, and developmental delays.
