My students on the South Side of Chicago are some of the most resilient, joyful, and inspiring kids I’ve ever met. I work with K-8 students with a wide range of communication disorders and delays, and the majority of the incredible kids I support are on the autism spectrum. Working with this population has had a deeply positive impact on my life—it has taught me to slow down, celebrate the small victories, and truly appreciate the beauty of different forms of communication. As a speech-language pathologist, I’ve had the privilege of helping my students find their voices, build confidence, and connect more meaningfully with the world around them. They are absolutely hilarious, full of personality, and never fail to bring a smile to my face. I love them wholeheartedly—they are the heart of my work, and they remind me daily of the power of patience, encouragement, and connection.
