In my classroom you will daily find students cozying up to a good book. Our daily independent reading time is a favorite part of the students' day, and so crucial to the development of lifelong reading enjoyment and competency.
Supplying students with diverse literature is a way for students to feel connected to our world, create critical thinkers, and create empathetic citizens. With your help our library can continue to grow and make a lasting impact on all who use it daily. Students will be allowed to select from any of the choices provided and check them out to go home at night. Some of the picture books will be used as part of my "A Book A Day" picture book reading, which is a shared class experience that has enormous benefits both social/emotionally, and in reading and writing development.
We need diverse books, as books are "mirrors, sliding doors, and windows" (Donalyn Miller), and more.
