I am privileged to work with students in kindergarten through 2nd grade who have moderate to significant cognitive disabilities such as Down Syndrome, congenital brain defects, autism, and other chromosomal abnormalities that impact the pace at which they learn. My students' abilities range from basic self-care skills to the ability to read, write, and complete math at a 1st grade level. My philosophy of learning and teaching is that all students can learn, so I push my students to learn and to achieve things that many of their parents never thought possible. I also want my students to have as much fun and be as normal as possible for the years they are with me as life will be far more challenging for them than the rest of us in the future. I love to use hands-on methods of teaching with my students as it helps them better understand and remember what they are learning.
