My softball team is in need of protective equipment, such as batting helmets and catcher's gear for the upcoming season. We are a low-income, inner-city high school and would like to provide as many student-athletes the opportunity to participate in athletics without financial worries. Softball is an expensive sport to play because of all of the equipment and protective gear necessary to participate. Many of our students are unable to join organized sports because of the financial burdens.
Organized sports are a great outlet for our students to be positive and productive members of the community. Our student-athletes take pride in wearing their team uniforms, and it is a great motivation for them to do well academically. By providing the students with the basic equipment necessary to play softball, I believe more students will be encouraged to take part in high school athletics.
