Giving students a choice in the classroom gives them a sense of empowerment. Usually students sit in desks for their lessons in the classroom. However, having flexible seating allows students to choose where they will be sitting for the day. Students need to be able to move, both in and out of the classroom. Flexible seating affords students the opportunity to move in the classroom, yet keeps them alert and focused. It is especially helpful for students with learning disabilities and learning challenges, as it provides them with an opportunity to exert energy while learning. Giving the students opportunities to choose their seating will help make learning fun, while allowing them to be active, engaged, and enthusiastic about learning!
