My students are currently in a transitional academic classroom. This means they are struggling in all areas of academics but many are cognitively at their age level.
Being aware of your own academic struggles often leads to insecurities that can lead to behavior problems. Helping students understand how they learn and why they need to learn certain skills is the main focus of my classroom.
We often need different materials in order to teach the lessons that my students need to make progress. This can be challenging because there is not always a budget for the hands on things that we need.
My classroom also has its own economy where students earn money for being at school, good behavior, and hard work. My students do not always have the intrinsic motivation needed to keep learning especially when it is difficult. Having our own store within our classroom with highly desired items is a huge reason why my works!
