Reading is out of this world for our new First Graders! The students say reading is a blast and exploring books is a favorite activity. Our school is setting new literary dispositions this year with a central focus on Reading Engagement. An engaged reader is one who not only looks at books but can see the potential in each story. An engaged reader uses their choice of books to make connections to their lives, for entertainment and enjoyment, to learn something new, inspire peer partner conversations, grow their vocabulary with meaningful words, to review/practice old and new skills, just to name a few!
By fulfilling our classroom projects, you will be providing more choices in supporting our daily reading skills practice. You will be giving my students a chance to explore new titles, practice applying new skills and feel that excitement around book discoveries all while becoming better readers.
