Each struggling reader needs a certain approach that targets their deficits. Our fifth-grade Response to Intervention group of students needs targeted instruction in decoding and fluency. Wilson Just Words is the perfect fit for these students and I know they will flourish through the use of this intervention. Another group of students that I serve is my English Learners group. English Learners need culturally relevant books that reflect their families and communities. Students engage in literature that is relatable. The books on my wishlist were handpicked for our students. Not only do we hope to read these books to and with our English Learners, but we also hope to use these books as read alouds with classroom teachers. As monolingual students learn about the culture of our English Learners, bridges are built and experiences are shared.
