These materials will make an exceptional difference in student learning, mainly by utilizing tactile and kinesthetic learning styles during experimental and simulation labs designed to secure student engagement and support knowledge recall.
The use of common household items, such as a bicycle pump and rubbing alcohol to simulate cloud formation, will help my students to solidify their knowledge with cooperative learning structures and to understand the (atmospheric) events taking place in the ever-changing world around them.
Using powerful neodymium bar magnets will allow the students to extract iron from fortified cereal so they can better comprehend the structure-function relationship as they enter Life science next year and how their external environments affect their internal environments, and the chemical processes that precede these effects, connecting them to last year's Physical science concepts.
