On an average day, I see 30 energetic 6th graders in my classroom. Although they vary on level, ability, gender, and age, they all are excited at the chance to visit my classroom library and read in our special spots such as stools, rugs, and pillows. While my students have a passion to learn new information, they also love to be comfortable
I teach 6th grade in the School District of Philadelphia. It is a small school but one that feels like family, where everyone supports each other and knows the students names and families. Because many of my students come from a low SES background and we are not fortunate enough to have a librarian I have taken the time to expand my classroom library. I have filled it with different varieties of fiction but with the common core push I would love to add more nonfiction to my library to expose my students to more topics that will engage their minds.
