Hunger is often cited as why many students find it hard to concentrate. Students at our school often travel across the city on two busses just to attend class. It's hard to find the time to eat breakfast when you have to wake up early and walk the bus stop before 6 am to get to school on time. Breakfast, and lunch, isn't always appealing, either. It's all wrapped in plastic and warmed up in the same package it's served in. Food is often discarded. Lunch is the same as well.
Students are often hungry throughout the day and that can make it hard to concentrate and regulate their behavior and emotions. While it's not much, providing students with snacks will take the edge of the hunger and keep them motivated to reach their goal: graduation. Our students face so many hurdles to get to that state; this will help making leaping over them easier.
