STEM is all about solving problems by using Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Most STEM challenges require the students to use various items found around a classroom to design and build an object. One of our activities is the students have to work in a group to build a shelter using a paper plate, 20 craft sticks, tape, a few pipe cleaners, 2 coffee filters, 3 pieces of string, and 3 small pieces of construction paper. These supplies will allow my students to learn to problem solve and work together.
STEM challenges allows my students to be creative and to think outside the box. They always start out saying the challenge is impossible, but through the process they quickly learn that they can do it. By the end of class they are so excited to show everyone they did it.
