Our Kindergarten classroom is a Dual Language classroom composed of 40 students who are eager to learn the Spanish language. These kindergarteners are in and out of the classroom daily. Students receive a 90-minute block for reading in Spanish daily.
Supporting us with books with help our students realize that learning as a second language is another way to succeed! My students are very eager to learn to read in Spanish and have the motivation to succeed. Although, they have made some progress, they still need a lot more exposure to a new language. These students do not have any background knowledge when it comes to Spanish letters, sounds, words, phrases, and sentences.
My students need a lot more exposure to Spanish print related to the pictures, in addition to the sounds they are learning to apply when they read. It is my goal for students to be able to read short sentences and comprehend what they read by the end of this school year.
