For many children, kindergarten is their first experience in a structured and routinized setting. Not only are they discovering brand new information in the form of academic content, but they are also learning how to problem-solve, build relationships, articulate their thoughts, express themselves creatively, and many other crucial skills they will use throughout the rest of their lives. The best way for these skills to be developed is for children to do what they do best: PLAY! I am a firm believer that structured play, which we refer to as Center Time in our class, provides students with necessary opportunities for hands-on learning and exploration. The materials chosen for this project will go towards the centers in our class: Art (markers & crayons), Builders (magnets & pipes), Theater (puppets & stage), Sensory (3 in 1 table & playdough). These materials will help my students to develop important social, emotional, and problem-solving skills that are vital to their overall success in kindergarten and beyond.
