What better way to learn to create sculptures, then getting dirty and having the experience of working on a potter's wheel ?! Many students do not get the opportunity to experience throwing clay on a wheel because access to this piece of machinery is not widely available for most of the students at my school. Families either need to pay for a membership at a ceramic studio or pay for summer camps at near by venues. Most of my students are low-income families that do not have those abilities, so having a potter's wheel in our classroom would mean that none of those obstacles exist and all of my students will have the opportunity to learn one of the most fun ways to build a sculpture!
