I teach at a school of "at-risk" students. They aren't necessarily at-risk just because of economical reasons or outcasts from society, they are just at-risk because they aren't your typical standard classroom type learners and have slipped through the cracks in our educational system. For years we have been pushing the envelope as to how to best reach our student body, and we finally found the magic button. We have developed a project based platform (an aquaponics based garden) which allows students to build, engineer, research and implement ideas, see progress and figure out how to make the system better, all while growing vegetables to give to others who need the help. Our attendance has increased in morning classes, and I have parents getting involved in their kids educational process for the first time. It has really been incredible.
