My school is Title I and is the largest elementary school in the district. Due to high poverty and adversity at students' homes, parents are unable to meet the children's basic needs. Parents work multiple jobs, and they are unable to support their child academically due to limited time and resources. My school works hard to build relationships, create a positive learning community, and use limited resources to assist students where they are. All of these strategies have given students tools to close the gap, but due to lack of funding my school is unable to provide enough resources to meet each student at his/her varying level of ability.
My school has one laptop cart to share among 12 classes. This is not enough to practice using a keyboard and using technology consistently and productively to enrich my students' education. My students continually impress me with their grit and excitement when they learn something new, and they deserve a classroom that will foster their growth.
