I work in an Urban public school. 67% of our student body speak a language other than English at home and 74% receive free or reduced lunch. I work in a dual language immersion classroom where the 18 students are becoming bilingual in Spanish and English. I myself support their language learning in addition to their general education. Our school is a K-2nd grade school. We partner with a sister school to de-segregate the community. Thus the school is a beautiful place where children of all walks of life have an opportunity to share, feel valued and learn about all different ways of growing up. The most interesting part for me is that in my classroom at all times we are all learning about the world around us, the curriculum, one another and each person's different language assets.
