I teach at a Title I school in Texas. I am a Fifth grade Reading and Social Studies educator. Many of my students are being raised in single parent households and receive a free or reduced lunch based on their socioeconomic status. I may not be able to control what happens outside school, but I can certainly control their experiences while they are in my classroom. I do my best to provide my students with opportunities and experiences they may not otherwise be able to experience. Finding new ways to integrate technology and outside resources within our classroom will certainly help my students to continue on a path of academic excellence. I heard a quote over this summer, "Don't let your condition become your conclusion" and I believe with the right resources to help my students I can help them succeed regardless of their condition.
