My students are en energetic group of 18 three and four year olds. They are filled with the inspiration to EXPLORE everything around them. Many of my students are in the classroom for the very first time. They are learning the basics-- everything from how to hold a book to how to manage a conflict with a friend. Gillespie is a school full of grit. Located on the far south side of Chicago, 97% of students come from a low-income household, yet attendance records remain high. My classroom is set up with numerous centers, to give the students opportunities to play, discover, and interact with various educational materials. Through play, conversation, and teacher guidance, my children will leave with a strong foundation in literacy, math, science, social science, and social/emotional health.
