I teach a student population who are both non-verbal and minimally verbal and communicate through gestures, visuals, AAC devices and short phrases. My students are very active and given movement and breaks as needed. Having flexible seating options and learning at different tables/areas helps my students in learning attending skills, requesting skills and tolerating wait time. My students have big personalities and bring joy to everyone around them. I aim to make my classroom their safe space and a comfortable environment for everyone who enters.
