Let me introduce you to our small community in Texas. Our population is made up of primarily low income families. Most children here are studying English as their second language. 95% of our children are on the free or reduced price lunch plan. Many students are sent home with food to last them through the weekend so they do not have to go hungry. Needless to say our children are not the ones rushing home to play Modern Warfare on their PlayStations. They are not logging on to a computer to play games on Facebook when they get home because there may not be a computer with Internet access available to them. Most of our children get to enjoy modern technology and literature in one place, and that is in the classroom. Our children need these tools because they, like all other children, appreciate having fun and learning new things. Our children need to see technology in action and have it accessible so they can one day utilize these acquired skills to pursue college or obtain a career.
