My nineteen second graders attend the one school in our small town. The school houses preschool through 8th grade. Since super storm Sandy, we have been out of school only to return last week into four separate locations. 21 classes are sharing an eight room school with 7 sharing a gymnasium. The students were excited to come back to see their teachers and friends but emotions are mixed. Many students lost their homes or part of their homes along with many personal belongings. My students are eager to get their personal belongings back as well as getting back into our own school, which will hopefully be in January. I am requesting these items so that my students have a sense of normalcy upon returning to the classroom. I would hate to have them come back into our once bright and cheery room with their favorite items missing.
