Our school has a 70% free and reduced lunch count. We are located in a larger city in Washington state. I currently teach third grade and have looped with this class from second grade. We have a very close classroom community and my students are very supportive of one another. One complaint my students have is that we don't have a comfortable place to sit on the floor. Our old carpeting is not very comfortable. My students enjoy reading out of their seats. On occasions when we've brought beach towels or blankets to lay out on the floor, they've been very motivated to get comfortable and read. This rug will give my students a more comfortable place to lie down or sit on the floor. It will encourage them to read more and for longer periods of time. As an added benefit, it will also be beneficial for smaller group reading instruction times by providing students with a space of their own.
