My students attend a large urban school community district in Illinois. More specifically the students live in the midst of crime and poverty. Their community is filled gangs, gun fires and drugs. My students face problems/obstacles on a daily basis that I haven't had to encounter as an adult.
My school is a public school that works hard to keep students in school and not at home. Despite the neighborhood surrounding the school my students have a 96% attendance rate. My students are children that are growing, evolving into preteens. Their bodies are changing and its a struggle to keep them focused on academics.
