Our School is over 50 years old and my classroom in a separate building is 41 years old. My classroom has been several different courses but has been Art for the past 7 years. There is not most of the large art making equipment in my building.
I teach Art 1 and Art 2 and the student body consists of a majority of Title 1 students. Most of my students have limited art experience. My classes are diverse and include special needs, english language learners and poverty. There are few visual art experiences available in the community and art and design are not on the forefront as a whole. The experiences students have in my classroom will give them the opportunity to express their creativity and learn about Art that they may never have again. It is my goal to not only open the eyes of my students to the world of art but to create more of an awareness , appreciation and active engagement of Art within the community.
