Scholastic News magazines are an amazing resource for students. The students in my classroom would greatly benefit from having this resource available for instruction. I know they would be excited to have a magazine written at their language level. Current events are an interest of my students, but mostly inaccessible due to the language typically used. Scholastic News includes listening activities which are essential in acquiring a second language. There are also Spanish translations available which will be helpful to some of the students. The magazines will be used for all five of my classes, making them a classroom resource.
These magazines would be used in whole class and small group instruction daily. They include topics that would be relevant to many of my low income ESL students. The magazines will also introduce them to what life is like in other parts of the world and prepare them to be global citizens of the 21st century while improving their listening and reading skills in English.
