Our children have a love of reading and being read to. The children engage in the stories by retelling their favorite parts and acting out the scenes. Teachers and community volunteers spend time reading to the children in small groups and individually. They have learned the various parts of the book, as well as what the author and illustrators roles are. Our library of books are becoming worn and the children are also not showing as much interest in the same books. Some of their favorite stories are the Pete the Cat series of books, Laura Joffe Numeroff's "If You Give a......" series, Eric Carle's series and fairy tales. We try to have books that build children's cognitive, language and literacy skills. By including the Books & CD sets, we are giving children the ability to do individual reading experiences using technology. With your help and generous donation, I would love to give the children many fresh new books that will continue their love of literacy. I also included some felt story pieces, such as Brown Bear, Brown Bear, Polar Bear, Polar Bear and Pete the Cat, for the children to be able to recreate and retell stories to their classmates.
