When my students come to me, they are lacking many foundational language skills that help them become a better reader. Almost all of my students come from homes where they are not interacted with on a daily basis or that are not predominately English speaking. I am requesting flash cards, sight word readers, word pattern cards and other resources that can be used during readers workshop and math workshop. These resources will help my students understand the many components of the English language and how it helps them build their reading skills. I am requesting resources that will help my students learn and practice the many language skills they will learn throughout the school year.
These resources will allow my students to engage in hands on centers and activities that will help facilitate the learning that is happening throughout our classroom. Along with teaching language skills, these resources will also give my students the opportunity to learn in fun ways. Rather than sitting on the carpet listening to a teacher, students will use these resources to interact with peers in fun and engaging ELA groups.
