I teach K - 5th grade, special education students in NYC at school 723X@927. Our school is a high need Special Education school in the Bronx, where students lack many learning resources they need to excel. My classroom demographic is diverse. My students are 5-10 years old.
They all have been diagnosed with autism, cognitive/developmental delays, sensory impairments, both visual and auditory, and are limited verbally or completely non-verbal. They are below grade level in All subjects and require tremendous support academically, socially, behaviorally and in communication.
All of my students are eligible to receive free school lunch. Many of my scholars have limited access to technology, most only with a school supplied IPad.
All of my students' families struggle with behavior management, socialization, communicating and playing with their children.
