I work at a large Chicago neighborhood school located in one of the most diverse communities in Chicago. Even though 1,200 students attend our school, it feels much smaller. We are a strong community of parents, administrators and teachers that support the learning of our students. We are closely connected to many community organizations. Our students are involved in many of the after-school programs provided by the school and these community organizations. Our school is 77% Latino, 8% Asian, 6% African American and 5% white. The diversity at our school is what makes it special. I love to see our students develop friendships with one another despite their very different backgrounds. The school population is 96% low income. The students at my school show such an excitement for learning. They love using the technology in our building despite their limited access at home.
