Currently, our school has an extremely low rate of passing the state mandated assessments. As a school, we have challenged ourselves to increase our passing rate by over 15%. Because we are a Title I school, students can't always afford to purchase their own books, and we cannot purchase new current sets. Because these novels are high interest they often are the first ones borrowed at the library.
Offering these books in my classroom, will provide an additional resource for students who want to pick up a book to read. Students who read have better vocabulary, are better writers, and are better critical thinkers. Currently, our students do not read for fun. We want to help them realize the value of reading.
