Monty is a German Shepard/Golden Retriever mix breed puppy in training to become a registered therapy dog. He has started spending time in our high school counseling office, where I work as a school counselor.
On his first day, students received their SAT results that we released from the College Board. A few students visited the counseling office facing disappointment that their scores were not as high as they had hoped, and Monty sat with students and offered non-judgemental affection as we talked about test scores not defining who we are and that students can always prepare and test again.
In the short amount of time he has spent at school, I am amazed at how the presence of a therapy dog positively impacts students! Our project includes treats, toys, and supplies for the counseling office to support students in interacting with Monty and his presence at school.
