Students will be doing labs throughout the semester to find out what part of the brain controls what sense or action. In this lab, they will not be able to see, but must use smells and tastes to identify items. Some of the food items change the brain's perceptions that what is sweet is actually salty, etc. Cups with lids allow for experimenting with smell.
How accurate are the students' senses of smell and taste? Can the brain be tricked, or is the brain tricking a person's sense of taste and smell? Also, are some people more sensitive to tastes and smells than other people? Is that connected to visual senses (for instance, if you are colorblind, are your other senses heightened?)
