My students live in the rural South-eastern Wisconsin. Our district (K-12) has approximately 1000 students. The students of this district are great. They love their school, science, and the world we live in. Unfortunately, they may feel too secure on our planet and not totally understand the world they have inherited from their ancestors. The have grown up in a world where everything is big and bigger. The bigger the better. They understand the basics of recycling (ie. aluminum cans & plastic soda bottles), but they do not fully comprehend the big difference each one can make. In the last couple of years our district has undertaken significant environmental actions to promoting conservation (ie installing a wind turbine). Last year, we paired up with TerraCycle to see how many juice pouches students can recycle at lunch. We recycled over 3200. Our students have now asked what else we can do, what else can we recycle. We now have 20 categories students may recycle.
