All students enjoy art in some shape or form. Whether it's music, painting, or movies, art speaks to students. The value of art education has been noted for years, but over the past decade, it's been put on the back burner. This project will give me a great base supply for incorporating visual arts into my ELA class. It includes scrapbook paper, glitter glue, paint pens, stencils, fabric strips, and other materials needed to create multimedia visual arts.
By incorporating art into English Language Arts, my students gain a deeper appreciation for literature and for the human experience. Literature and art fit hand-in-hand. Both allow students to see from different perspectives; literature and art provide a safe space for them to walk in someone else's shoes without actually having to experience the difficulties.
With this project, my students will create various multimedia art pieces. Some projects include creating a collage that symbolizes their feelings of stereotypes, creating a scrapbook for an influential person that they research, and designing a satirical piece based on a researched topic. The supplies will allow them to develop creativity and confidence while showing their understanding of the ELA content.
