My students attend a title one middle school. I teach 6th, 7th, and 8th graders of which 100% qualify for the National School Lunch Program. The school district's median family income is $38k. Our district pays for the majority of their art supplies, but budgets have been drastically cut this year. The majority of my students have had no formal art instruction before coming into my classroom. Any exposure to the fine arts is a gift to them and with S.T.E.A.M. programs gaining momentum across the country, it's important that they have basic arts knowledge before going to high school and college.
