I teach the visual arts at Kennedy High School in Waterbury, CT. The students I have in my class are from every walk of life, some are new to the country, some born and raised in the city, some are at poverty levels and others are more fortunate. At the high school level, I teach Foundations of arts classes, which are beginning level classes for students to take, I also teach Drawing Classes and am one of the club advisers for Art Club. Most of the students in the Foundations of art class have not taken an art class since Middle School. I would like to maximize their experience in the visual arts and allow them to see that school can offer them more than just tests.
