I teach in a rural, low income district in South Carolina. My programs reach 9th-12th grade students. Because of my coursework, I teach a very diverse group of students. I teach scholars, farm kids, urban kids, and at-risk students. In our district, my program serves as the Science graduation credit for our lowest functioning special education students. My students work very well together, thanks to our subject matter.
Agriculture is so broad and we all realize its importance. Intro to Agriculture reaches about 75 students per year. Equine Science and Veterinary Science are upper level courses, predominantly taken by 11th and 12th graders. These courses make up another 80 students. All courses have hands-on, real life laboratories. Every day, my goal is to reach my students through every learning style. I enjoy incorporating technology into lessons, as that is a huge part of modern agriculture.
