I teach some of the most curious third graders you will ever meet, and any opportunity they have to pack their backpacks and venture outside the four walls of our classroom on an adventure to learn is considered an exciting privilege not to miss! If we can't get away, I try my best to enrich their education with hands-on learning experiences and visits by special experts, thus bringing the field trip into the classroom! My 23 students attend a public charter school in California. The population is diverse and many kids are from low income families who don't have the funds to spend on special projects. By taking class field trips, bringing experts into the classroom, and by providing special hands-on learning opportunities, all of my students, regardless of their socioeconomic or educational background, have a shared experience with the subject matter I am exposing them to, and an equal access to the rich learning.
