Our students are college bound students who have made a personal commitment to overcome the boundaries of having come from low-income, minority families so as to become college educated, contributing members of society. Our students hail from a southern California predominately Hispanic high school. If they are not immigrants themselves, most of our students come from immigrant families, and nearly all of them speak English as a second language. These students display exemplary academic records and continually hold the top g.p.a.'s in their school. Moreover, our students are busy beyond the school day, participating in multiple extra-curricular activities and completing community service as a part of their commitment to the AVID program. As a final note, these students are enrolled in a separate AVID class, which requires them to take an extra class prior to school starting in the morning. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, and is a world-wide program.
