Flexible seating is a way to allow students to choose where they sit and take initiative in their learning. By being given the opportunity to choose where they sit, my students will be taking the first step in taking charge of their learning. Currently, my students sit in traditional chairs at their tables when completing independent work as well as varying academic centers. By being given the choice of where and how to sit, the students will be able to learn in ways that are most comfortable to their learning styles.
Instead of using chairs and tables as done in the past, the students will be able to choose to sit flexibly on the floor with lap desks or wobble cushions. The students will have the opportunity to choose the floor versus a table, a camping chair versus a plastic chair. The choices are endless and so are the possibilities for my students.
By supporting this, you will be helping my students take initiative and aide them in learning in ways that support their best way to learn. I cannot wait to see the positive impact this has on my first graders.
