My school is amazing! The teachers work hard to make sure each kid is loved, fed, and given what they need to succeed in life. We have more than 80% of our kids on free or reduced-price lunch. In my room I have 3 homeless kids, foster kids, kids raised by grandparents, with special needs (vision, autism, non-verbal) but we are all making tremendous strides.
I'm so proud that they know they are safe to take risks and make mistakes. I do what I can to make sure they know they are wanted. I have made home visits, missed numerous lunches, breaks, and stayed late with students when their parents forgot to pick them up.
This is my second year teaching and the financial cost to me has been significant. My room budget of $200 ran out the first week.
