Last week, I was testing a student one on one and was close enough to see her hair covered in nits. The health office confirmed that she had tons of live lice crawling through her hair. This is common at my school.
The girl was SO upset. Not because of the lice, but because the last time she had it, her mother cut ALL of her hair off. Chopped it with scissors. The little girl refused to take her hood off for months. She was terrified that it would happen again. Sad to say, this is not the first time I’ve seen this happen.
Often parents in poverty cannot afford the lice treatment sold at the local pharmacy so they just hack their child’s hair. I can’t stop thinking about it.
Many students in poverty have their hair drastically cut to get rid of head lice, these kits will allow parents to remove the lice without cutting their hair off.
I would like to provide these kits free of charge to families that can't afford them.
Thank you for your generosity!
