In our rural district, most families qualify for free/reduced lunch and receive assistance through SNAP. Our program provides lunch and breakfast for students on the weekend. Donor's Choose would provide snacks and some relief to the students and their families. Our program benefits students socially, academically and physically. The effects of child hunger can touch not only their cognitive development but their physical health by leaving children's immune systems more susceptible to disease and health issues. Providing meals not only benefits the health of the children but the health of the family by relieving some parental stress as they attempt to provide for their children. Our goal is to have a lasting effect on these children. We believe students working in the program and those receiving the benefits will develop positive attitudes and relationships with others and increase their school performance.
