Our 4th grade students have had the opportunity to learn engineering and programming principals by building robots and programming them to complete real-world tasks. Students competed in a local G.E.A.R robotics competition where they were tasked with programming their robots to complete a set of tasks within two minutes. We were able to borrow kits this year, which meant that we had a very limited amount of time to build and learn the program to allow the robot to complete the tasks. I would like to have our own kits so that we would have more time to build and learn how the different elements of the robot and program work. Having our own kits will also allow more students to compete next year.
