My current class is a diverse group of 22 5 & 6 year olds. Students in my class are classified as homeless, learning disabled, ELL learners, autistic, gifted, and more than 3/4ths experience the effects of poverty on a daily basis. These students as inquisitive, eager to share their thinking, anxious to show their abilities, and cautious when tackling unfamiliar tasks.
Each day these kinders come to a school that is focused on providing a safe and loving learning environment. Coupled with this, every staff member - from classroom teachers, custodians, administration, kitchen workers, etc.. have high academic and social expectations of each individual student. We know them by name, we make daily efforts to include their parents and family in our desired culture of unity.
