My students brainstormed ideas to incorporate exercise, technology, reading, and math to help them keep active at least 60 minutes each day. They decided that they would like to bring iPads into the classroom to use in a variety of ways as they focus on fitness and movement.
My students came up with several ways they would like to incorporate iPads and fitness throughout the day. First, they would like to use them with headphones in small groups during our learning center time. They would like to have a fitness center where they can do yoga or play Fluency and Fitness games. This is a program that flashes math and literacy questions combined with an exercise to do after a certain number of problems. Second, they would like to video each other making up dances and songs to sight words, math facts, and other literacy skills. They also decided that they would like to video each other accomplishing fitness goals outside and turn it into a video that can be shared throughout the school. Finally, they would like to use them to play Go Noodle (active brain breaks) throughout the day.
This kid-inspired project is sure to get my students moving throughout the day. They came up with several fun centers that incorporate learning as well as physical fitness. They are right on target!!
