I teach in a Head Start classroom that is full of diversity. These students come from many different backgrounds and have very diverse family dynamics. A majority of our students come from the Early Head Start program that is offered before Head Start. This has given them a chance to be exposed to learning and some of the activities we do before even stepping foot into a classroom. Much of the learning we do is through play. The students interact with their peers and the teachers while using manipulatives provided at each interest area.
Social and Emotional skills are the foundation of our learning.
The students practice regulating their own emotions, establishing positive relationships, and participating cooperatively in group settings. Once the students are able to accomplish these skills, they are ready to begin learning literacy, mathematics, science, art, and social studies!
